Butterfly Madness

 So we sent away for one of those butterfly garden kits a few months ago.  Then the first one came and the caterpillars were dead from the extreme heat they were shipped in.  Eventually I got around to reordering the caterpillars...

 Then they grew and grew in their little cup, finally ending in a chrysalis hanging from the top.  Daddy transferred the little paper disk they were hanging from to the net cage they were to live in as butterflies.

 They finally 'hatched' and we actually watched one come out of its chrysalis...pretty neat if you've never seen it.  After a couple of days we freed the butterflies.

 They were Painted Lady butterflies, and very pretty.  Just as we opened the net, this one decided to show off its wings.  Oddly they didn't fly right out as soon as we opened it.  The kids got tired of waiting and eventually when they checked later they were all out.

Overall, it was fun and we will probably do it again later in our science adventures.

Free Ice Cream for Summer Reading

 We redeemed our free ice cream coupon from the summer reading program through the library.  The kids had a blast in the play area too.

But it started raining really hard, so I don't have any more pictures of the event.  The kids had fun, so I have it on good authority that we will now be attending more such events!  

St Rose of Lima Feast Day

 We went back to the tire to tire park as Rose calls it...only this time I forgot our lunch on the kitchen table and we ate at the McDonald's down the road.

We also made cupcakes and brought them to the retired priests at the St Rose of Lima Retirement Villa, which is fairly new.  Here Rose is posing with their newly installed statue of St Rose.  

Summer Movies

Once again, cheap fun summer movies were the mode of entertainment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  It was a nice way to spend a morning inside, since it was so hot this summer.

GUB (Great Uncle Bill) and GAC (Great Aunt Cristi) came for a visit and Rose showed off her new reading skills.  Of course James did great hamming it up for the camera!
