Rainbow fun - colored pasta necklaces

In following with our rainbow theme this week, Rose made some noodle necklaces.  But first I made the noodles different colors - I followed the directions here. But missed the part about premixing the color and alcohol, so my noodles looked a little spotted.  Next time, I'll know better!

Anyway, Rose had fun and wanted to keep making different people different pieces.  Good concentration activity.

'Rainbow' Fun - liquid density

I found this experiment on YouTube.
Honey, Veg Oil, Dish Soap, Alcohol (use food coloring), water (more food coloring!).  I put a little of each in ramekins so the density, color, etc could be observed.
First pour honey in glass (don't let it touch the sides).
Then slowly add the dish soap.
 Then the colored water.
Add veg oil very slowly down the side of glass.
Add colored rubbing alcohol.  Let it all 'settle' and you will see all the different layers.  I just wish I had some red food coloring when I did this and that my soap was purple or something - it would have looked cooler that way, but still was pretty neat.

Rainbow Fun - flower

Mix A LOT of food coloring (about 1 tsp to a little less than a 1/4 cup of water).  Cut stems and place in water.
 Less than an hour later...

The next morning!  Rose loved this science experiment, but was disappointed the purple wasn't as vibrant!

...and I'm Back!!!

So life got a little crazy there for a while and I just couldn't seem to get around to posting.  So sorry to those that rely on the blog for kid pics!  I will be post dating some events, so be sure to scroll down and maybe even to older ones.  I did take lots of pictures so keep checking back.  I probably have a solid hour's worth of work to do on updating ;)

Rainbow fun - snack time!!!

Rainbow fun - milk science

Start with a bowl of milk.
 Add food coloring.
Add a drop of dish soap.
 Wait for it....

When your three year old is tired of looking at the same design, drag a toothpick through the colors to make exciting swirls.

I found this project here.

An Easter Decoration

Mom-mom sent Rose this box of crafting supplies back in February but since it had spring stuff in it, we waited until a little closer to Easter to do anything with it.  After James went down for his nap I got the box out and Rose was thrilled with all the little pieces.

First I trimmed the foam block to fit in the small bucket, then Rose decided where everything went.  We added some spring/Easter stickers and our table centerpiece was done.  Easy, very little mess, and one happy little crafter.  She loves her some 'projects'!

On the dining room table under the chandelier with some plastic eggs adorning it.
